/ VINYL MASTERING

Vinyl mastering on the analog chain.

Vinyl is a physical format with physical limits, and a loud digital master pushed onto a lacquer is how records end up thin, distorted or unplayable. A vinyl premaster is its own master: level set against side length, low end managed so the cutter head can track it, sibilance controlled before it becomes a problem. You get the cut-ready file for the plant and a separate digital master for streaming.

  • Side-length aware
  • Separate streaming master

/ WHAT CHANGES FOR VINYL

Length decides level.

Twenty-two minutes a side is not eleven minutes a side. Tell me the running order and the target length, and the level, low end and top end get planned around it - before the plant tells you to re-cut.

The digital version of the same record runs through online mastering on the same chain, so both formats sound like one release.

  • Side length and running order planned before the master is set
  • Bass management: mono below the crossover where the cut needs it
  • Elliptical EQ applied only where it is genuinely required
  • Sibilance and hard transients tamed for the cutter head
  • No true-peak brickwall loudness pushed onto the lacquer
  • Separate streaming master delivered alongside the premaster
  • Files named and split per side, ready to send to the plant
