Play your track, press LEARN, and keep the music playing until it says DONE. ThuMP sets up the chain for your song at matched loudness.

After a successful pass, the original setup is in the inactive slot. Compare it with the learned setup and check the reported loudness difference.

Every value LEARN sets on the faceplate is a control you can move. Input, output, genre and character stay yours.

A face of sections,
not a schematic.

Header

LEARN, KEY, INPUT and OUTPUT. INPUT sets how hard you drive the instance. OUTPUT trims the finished sound. With TRUE PEAK on, negative OUTPUT adds headroom and positive boosts are held at 0.0 dB.

PROCESSING and CHARACTER

The musical half. Seven macros, five tone stages. At rest they sit off or at their musical zero, so a fresh insert does not change the record.

LOUDNESS, METERS and OUTPUT

Hear loudness and what the delivery costs, then set the one ceiling and the body-to-snap balance.

THREE-BAND COMPRESSOR

The stereo picture, the three band thresholds, and the width control.

How we assess sound.

This describes how I listen and what I measure while listening. It is a method, not a set of published test results.

Compare at equal playback levelBoth versions are levelled to the same integrated loudness before anything is judged. Louder is not better, it is just louder.
Listen for low end and transient shapeDefinition in the bottom octaves, and whether the hit still arrives intact after processing.
Inspect stereo image and delivery levelsWidth and mono behaviour, then integrated loudness and true peak against the target for the release format.
