Every stage knows what the next one is doing.
Most VST mastering plugins are good in isolation and awkward together. The multiband cannot see how hard the limiter is about to work, so you compensate by ear, twice. Inside ThuMP the band behaviour, the clipper and the limiter share one gain structure, which is why electronic music mastering with it tends to need fewer moves - and smaller ones.
Dance music mastering has one recurring failure: the record gets louder and the groove gets shorter. Push the level and the space between the kick and everything else disappears. ThuMP protects that space by taking peaks with the clipper before the limiter is asked to hold the whole bar down.

Drop in a reference track and ThuMP measures its spectral balance and extracts the groove - how the low end moves against the beat grid. You are not copying a preset; you are seeing where your track actually differs from the one you keep going back to. Everything is loudness-matched, so the louder file does not win by default.
For the level question - the best limiter for electronic music is the one that keeps the transient after it takes the peak. ThuMP shows you gain reduction per band and true peak at the output, so the ceiling is a decision rather than an accident.
